Athlete Spotlight: Heather Tribble!

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?
-September 2016

-I was looking for a change in my current workout. Several people had mentioned CF to me in the past, but I was always afraid of getting hurt and felt I was not the Crossfit type. When I started looking around for a new workout/gym I came across Crossfit Urban Jungle. I spoke with Daren on the phone and set up a one week trial for my husband and I. It took a bit of convincing to get Joe on board,  but he finally agreed to try for one week. Obviously, that week has now turned into almost 2 years.

What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?
-My favorite wods include HSPU but not one single wod is my favorite.

-I don’t have a least favorite wod.

What is your favorite/least favorite movement?
-Thrusters are my favorite

-Overhead squats least favorite

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)
I’m married to Joseph Tribble and we recently had a little girl, Emerson who just turned 5 months. I enjoy camping, Crossfit, volleyball, fishing with my hubby and spending time with family and friends. I am a Nurse Practitioner in Neurosurgery.

What was your workout routine before CrossFit?
-Prior to CrossFit I worked out on my own at the gym and enjoyed running. I did my first 1/2 marathon in April before joining CF.

What did you think after your first CrossFit workout?
-Wow! I’m going to be sore forever. LOl

Actually, I was surprised how much I enjoyed the workout and loved that Daren and Michelle had modifications for any level of athlete.

What were your goals when joining CrossFit?  Have you achieved any of those goals?
-Become more lean and fit

-And to get a strict pull-up

Within 6 months of joining I had accomplished a strict pull-up. Now I can do 3 strict pull-ups and just mastered kipping pull-ups. I have leaned out a lot since joining Crossfit and feel great too.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?
-Crossfit has definitely affected my life outside the gym. We have met so many great people who we now call our friends and spend time with away from the gym as well. My husband and I enjoy our time at Crossfit together and love we get to work outside by side while still being challenged.

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?
Finally stringing together more than 10 double under and getting kipping pull-ups well enough to do them in a wod

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CFUJ?
Don’t compare yourself to the person next to you. Be consistent with your workouts and you WILL see results. Also, challenge yourself to take the next step or try something you might think you can’t do because you might just surprise yourself.

Something you might not know about me is?
I just had a new baby and was able to continue Crossfit throughout my entire pregnancy with modifications along the way. I feel continuing  Crossfit is what made my pregnancy so easy and kept my energy level up.
