Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, hobbies, interests, etc.). Married to Christy for 12 years, 3 kids: Velvet (8), Boaz (6), Elijah (4). I am a outside salesman for CentraMark Technical Sales, a manufacturers’ representative firm. My hobbies include hiking, camping, fishing, home “fix it” projects. I also enjoy volunteering at my church.
When did you first start training at CrossFit Urban Jungle and what was your first WOD? How was it? I started at CFUJ on June 6. I can’t remember the first WOD, but I do remember lasting about 4 mins. before tapping out and heading to the bushes out back.
What is your kryptonite? (least favorite movement) I am still learning a lot of difficult skills, but my (current) least favorite is double unders.
Your best ninja skill? (favorite lift/movement) Back Squats.
What your favorite cheat meal? Sausage/jalapeño pizza and buffalo wings.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? I had been relatively stagnate for 5 years, since I had stopped coaching/teaching. I had gotten a rather large stomach and was relatively soft all around. Since starting Crossfit, my chest is becoming more toned, and my stomach is getting smaller. I am losing my “love handles” and getting stronger legs. Overall, I am getting in better shape with every session, I am happier with myself – and loving it!
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFUJ moments: The times that I try and fail, and try again and “get it” are my favorite moments. I also try not to take myself too seriously, so if I try something and fail horribly it is fun to laugh at my mistake.
Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit? Start slow, stick with it, and don’t give up. You CAN do it, and the community is here to help encourage you daily!
Something you might not know about me: I am a former wrestler.
