Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, hobbies, interests, etc.).
Hey everyone, I’m Richard! I was born and raised in the Dallas area and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013. I have an intense interest in how the human body works and that led to me graduating with two degrees: Biology and Economics. I currently work as a Solutions Advisor at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. When I’m not shirtless in the gym enjoy reading, playing video games and hanging out with my dog, family, and friends.

When did you first start training at CrossFit Urban Jungle and what was your first WOD? How was it? I started training at CFUJ on October 5th, 2015. My first WOD here was an AMRAP of C2B pullups, ring dips and a 200m run. I like bodyweight movements, but the run was not fun. I was definitely out of shape doing this workout so it was humbling.

What was your athletic background before CF?
I played tennis in high school and started weight training at 17. I got really dedicated to weight training during and after college so I was able to build up a good base level of strength.

What is your kryptonite?
Double unders.

Your best ninja skill?
Back Squat.

What your favorite cheat meal?
Hot wings.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit?
I have gotten leaner, stronger, learned new skills, and became more conditioned overall.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFUJ moments:
Getting my first ring muscle up!

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit?
Stick with it and pay attention to your nutrition! Eating right is more than half the battle. Don’t forget to stretch and mobilize either, it’ll pay dividends when it comes to staying injury free!

Something you might not know about me:
I am aspiring competitive eater. I’ve done the Pluckers spiciest wing challenge and paid for it the next day.
